Consortiums of Equine Rescuers
Many people with great big hearts get started with equine rescue only to become quickly overwhlemed with both the need and responsibilities. There are organizations out there who know this to be fact and who have put together excellent materials to help would-be rescuers set themselves up safely for long term success.
Equine Welfare Alliance EWA is an umbrella organization representing equine welfare organizations, equine rescues and individuals involved in a grass roots effort dedicated to ending the slaughter of American Horses and the protection of our Wild Horses & Burros on public lands.
Horse Welfare Organizations the HWO is run by a dedicated writer who assembles information about many of the rescue groups thorughout the US.
The Humane Society of the United States has an entire section of their focus dedicated to horses and equine issues.
The Thoroughbred Retirement Foundation is dedicated to assisting ex-racers find new homes and new careers.
The United States Rescue League. The United States Equine Rescue League, Inc. (USERL) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization founded for the protection of equines. There are now 3 operational USERL states in the U.S.: North Carolina, Virginia, and Iowa with three new states starting up operation (kentucky, Indiana and Colorado). The USERL regions within these states operate under the corporation of USERL.
